Autumn 2025 brings Field Notes’ 68th quarterly edition, “Fall Flowers,” a tribute to three late-season blooms that rarely get the attention they deserve.

While spring flowers usually steal the spotlight, the purple coneflower, false foxglove, and common chicory keep showing up when the days grow shorter and colder. Field Notes invited Jennifer Farrell of Starshaped Press to illustrate the trio in the ornate style of early-20th-century publishers’ bindings, and her charming artwork suits the theme perfectly.

The accompanying film, Coneflower, Foxglove, and Chicory, showcases beautiful paper flower-making by Laura Garcia of Paper Perennial.

To capture the look and feel of well-worn clothbound books from a century ago, the covers are printed with three subtle metallic inks on Mohawk’s new “Midnight Blue” 100#C Mosaic stock, finished with a soft burlap texture. Inside the back covers, readers will find a bit of information about each flower, along with a scaled-down set of Practical Applications. The interiors are ruled in a gentle blue-gray on Field Notes’ popular 60#T Domtar Lynx stock.
